Why We Shuck: Supporting Local Conservation

As a small grassroots nonprofit, SPACE relies on community support and fundraising events to carry out our mission of protecting greenspaces and managing publicly accessible nature preserves throughout Spartanburg County.

All proceeds from A Shucking Good Time directly support critical conservation efforts right here at home—from private lands conservation to public lands stewardship and habitat restoration. Help keep Spartanburg wild!

From Celebration to Conservation

SPACE is proud to participate in Spartanburg Water’s Oyster Shell Recycling Program, a sustainable initiative that gives oyster shells a second life. After the feast at A Shucking Good Time, the shells are collected and recycled to help restore oyster habitats along the South Carolina coast. It’s a simple but powerful way to turn celebration into conservation—and keep our waterways thriving for generations to come.

A Huge Thank You to Our Sponsors!

We’re incredibly grateful to the local businesses and individuals who make A Shucking Good Time possible. These generous sponsors care deeply about sustainable growth and local conservation, and their support helps us protect the greenspaces that make Spartanburg special.

We couldn’t do this without them—so help us show some love and join us in celebrating the power of community-driven conservation!

Sustainable Events Initiative

Sustainable Events Initiative

SPACE hosts a multitude of events throughout the year. As an organization focused on land conservation and environmental protection, we’ve launched an initiative to focus on sustainability efforts during our fundraisers and small events. With help from local composting company, SMART Recycling, we’re making composting a priority at our events. Thanks to local artists Frankie Zombie and Maggie MacDonald, you won’t miss the compost cans at these events! Want to help make our events more sustainable? Share a ride and bring your own non-glass tumblers with you. Working together we can make an impact!
